Panic
and confusion
For a servant of the people
There is but one conclusion
Into the maw of danger we must go
We
are not heroes
It's just our job
A
day like any other
Until out went the call
Our charges need us!
Hurry! ...the ladders! ...the engines!
The cars with red and blue lights!
Hurry the medics with bandages and air!
Come everyone!
every single brother!
The towers of metal and glass are burning!
Our citizens are hurt and frightened!
They are trapped in there!
We
are not heroes
It's just our job
|
Into
the fire and smoke they went
Armed with tools of the trade
Equipment that would help
Yet best of all
They came armed with fearlessness
And the courage of lions
With these weapons and a divine purpose
They were born
Into a man made Hell they marched
These angels of mercy
From Heaven they were sent
We
are not heroes
It's just our job
They
fought a good battle
Saving those that they could
But time and fate was not with them
The floors began to shake
The walls started to wail
Started to rattle
We
are not heroes
It's just our job
|
Down
the towers came
And with them all our sisters
All our brothers
They were the bravest among the brave
Lost to an act of cowardice
Evil is to blame
We
are not heroes
It's just our job
Amid
the wreckage and the ruin
Something is found
A fireman's helmet
dusty and scorched
The badge of a policeman
silver and round
Symbols of dedication
of sacrifice
Nothing less can they do
It's just their job
But forever
They are heroes too
For those who gave all...
Always in our hearts...
