"The Knight"

Here He comes
This knight so bold
Riding on his gallant red steed.
Past sidewalks and streets
All covered in mud
And showered in ash.
Past screaming children
And sobbing mothers
And anyone running
Simply running
For their lives.

Up towers
To turrets.
Up the great flaming castle.
Through poisonous smoke
And ash-filled air.
Looking to save people
Dying of the horrible fumes.
Hurrying people to safety.
And people running
Simply running
For their lives.

But He would never run
Never run
For his life.

of September 11 from her apartment in downtown New York.
