Of
the 343 Firefighters lost at Ground Zero, two were FDNY Viking firefighters.Off-duty
Firefighter Eric Olsen and Firefighter Arthur Barry, who was on vacation, met
at the firehouse on South Street, Manhattan, intending to help a friend in Queens
the morning of September 11. When the voice alarm indicated a plane had struck
the World Trade Center, as is the case with all truly dedicated Firefighters,
they responded without hesitation. Eric and Arthur never returned. FDNY OLSEN/BARRY
VIKING MEMORIAL REGATTA Saturday, August 10, 2002, 10:30 a.m.in New York Harbor,
in the area of the Statue of Liberty in the shadow of Ground Zero, in honor of
Eric and Arthur and all who perished on 9/11. Our goal is 100 plus yachts from
the New York,Long Island, Connecticut and New Jersey areas. There will be spinaker
and non-spinaker divisions and a separate course and committee for J-24s and our
hope is also to have a seperate divisions for one design classes of 6 or more
yachts. The names of the winners will be permanently engraved on the trophy that
will be on display at the quarters of Engine 4 and Ladder 15, the firehouse where
Eric and Arthur were assigned. all proceeds will go into a scholarship fund for
a little boy that was dear to Eric and Arthur and will not be receiving any scholarship
