For
the past three years, Engine Company 226 has participated in
an annual fishing trip which allows MS patients to enjoy a day
of fishing on Long Island. While still getting through the first
year following September 11th, the guys were eager to continue
the tradition started by Brian McAleese. In addition to Brian
who forged this relationship, four others who had previously
volunteered also were lost on 9/11; they were Stan Smagala,
Dave DeRubbio, Dave Arce and Mike Boyle. A moment of silence
was observed as a wreath of flowers was placed in the waters
of the Great South Bay in honor of these men. We also had a
few laughs with a courageous group of people who refuse to let
MS get them down. Hopefully, we will continue this relationship
for many years to come. Next year let's have a few more keepers
and a few less sea robbins and tangled lines guys!
