No police department in this nation's history lost as
many officers in a single incident as did the Port Authority
of New York and New Jersey Police Department on September
11, 2001. From its inception on June 1, 1928 to
September 10, 2001, the PAPD lost a total of 7 officers
in the line of duty ... 7 officers over a period of 78
years. On September 11, 2001, the Port Authority
Police Department lost 3% of its total force! Every
uniformed rank of the Department lost someone on that
fateful day.
Along
with the 37 officers, an additional member of the PAPD force
was also lost and is often overlooked in the statistics.
Sirius, an Explosive Detection K-9, was a 4 year old
yellow labrador retreiver that was killed in the collapose
of WTC Tower One.

This
page is dedicated to the memory of all the 37 brave and
fearless members of the Port Authority Police Department,
whose selfless actions and incredible courage in the face
of extreme personal risk, made sure that others escaped
the World Trade Center, while sacrificing their own lives,
so others could live.
The
men and women of the PAPD, like me, who are left to serve
and honor their memory will do so now and forever. There
can be no other way. Their memory will always be honored
and never forgotten! Our Department Motto has a new
value to us, because of the 37 ... |
