Jeffrey Stark helped put his girlfriend, Katharine Suarez, through law school and in their five years together, he stuck with her through thick and thin, she said. But their plans to marry were swept aside on Sept. 11. Stark was last seen that day at Broadway and Vesey, moving toward the Twin Towers with fellow firefighters from Brooklyn's Engine Co. 230. Stark's sister Therese said her brother was lighthearted, even-tempered and happy and had a bright future. After a stint with brokerage PaineWebber, Stark joined the fire department, graduating from the academy in May 1999. Being a firefighter was the realization of a family legacy for Stark, 30, who followed his brothers John and Joseph into the department. Before rejoining Engine Co. 230, his original assignment, Jeffrey Stark for a time worked in the same Bronx firehouse as his brother John. Brother Joseph is a marine engineer in Lower Manhattan's Marine Co. 1. In his off hours, Jeffrey Stark enjoyed hunting, camping and fly fishing. He also loved to read. Stark also is survived by mother Rosemary and another sister, Kathleen Stark-West.
