Prunty - A Chief Who Had Fought Fires for 33 Years October 2,
2001 Richard Prunty, 57, a chief attached to Manhattan's Batallion
2, was a firefighter for 33 years. A resident of Sayville, Prunty
also was an Army veteran who saw action during the Vietnam War.
He grew up in Lake Ronkonkoma and attended Sachem High. After
attending Alfred State University, Prunty earned an undergraduate
degree in behavioral science from the New York Institute of Technology
in Old Westbury. "He liked being a firefighter," said his daughter,
Lisa Prunty. "He wanted to be close to everything. He went out
on virtually every call." Prunty was married for 33 years to his
wife, Susan. He is also survived by a son, Christopher. --Bill
