Durrell
was a firefighter with Rescue 4 Engine 292. He was affectionately
known to his brothers (Firefighters) as "Bronko." However, to
his immediate family he was known as "Bronk." He was an only child
of parents who have both passed away. We were a very small family
and now, sadly, I am the sole surviving paternal first cousin.
Bronk was like a little brother to me, and I watched him grow
into the fine young man he had become. When my own brother died
some 16 years ago he was there by my side. He was called the "Gentle
Giant," at 6'2", 280 lbs. However, his heart was that much bigger.
He gave of himself and was loved by all whose lives he touched.
He enjoyed acting and appeared in a Tostito's commercial with
Bill Parcel. He also played on the FDNY Football Team and played
the drums for the Emerald Society Pipe Band.
