Streets Renamed WTC Firefighters Honored by New Law By James Meyer Mayor Bloomberg signed into law on Jan. 7 a bill renaming 97 thoroughfares and public places in the city in honor of the Firefighters, rescue workers and other casualties of Sept. 11, 2001. It was one of the first pieces of legislation signed into law this year. The bill was introduced by Council Member Joseph P. Addabbo Jr., who chairs the Council’s Committee on Parks and Recreation. “While honoring these heroes, we also acknowledge that it is but a modest gesture when compared to their great and ultimate sacrifice,” the committee report stated. Here are the names of the public places that honor our members and officers by borough. The new name is given, followed by the old name and where it borders when appropriate. Staten Island: Firefighter Eric Taube Olsen Place, Mosley Avenue, between Hillis Street and Barclay Avenue
