A
Born Firefighter Dec. 3, 2001 It seems as though Dennis P. McHugh,
34, of Sparkill, N.Y., was born to be a firefighter. Dermid Kelly
remembers meeting McHugh in the second grade and watching him
slide down the fireman's pole in the school playground -- head
first. Michael McHugh remembers a brother with a wicked sense
of humor who abandoned a career in finance to be a firefighter.
McHugh, a member of Ladder Co. 13 in New York City, responded
to the World Trade Center disaster. His brother, Tom, a fire marshal
with the New York Fire Department, said his brother always lent
a sympathetic ear in times of distress. In addition to Tom and
Michael, McHugh is survived by another brother, Brendan; wife,
Una; children Chloe, Joseph and Sophia, and parents Michael and
Olivia. --Compiled by Newsday
