in World Trade Center Attack -
Brother
Michael Haub, PMC of Nassau Chapter in New York, died in the terrorist
attacks on New York City. Brother Haub, born June 13, 1967, in
Hollis Queens, New York, and raised in Mineola New York by his
mother Edda and father Helmut Haub. Michael married his wife Erika
on May 9, 1998. They were blessed with two beautiful children
Michael Andreas and Kiersten. He was a proud and loving husband
who devoted his life to doing the best for his family, who referred
to him as "Our Hero". He was a mentor to many of his friends'
children, who cared for and loved him. As a German American he
belonged to numerous German clubs and enjoyed sharing and teaching
the heritage and language to his children. Brother Haub began
his Fire fighting career with the Roslyn Highlanders Fire Company
in 1988. He eventually ascended to the position of Captain. His
passion for helping people led him to join the New York Fire Department,
graduating from the academy in 1999. Brother Haub was appointed
to the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) on August
8, 1999. Following 12 weeks of rigorous training at the Fire Academy,
Probationary Firefighter Haub was assigned to Ladder Company 130
in the College Point section of Queens in November of 1999. As
part of the FDNY's rotational training program, which exposes
new firefighters to the unique challenges of working in different
parts of the City, Brother Haub was transferred in January of
2001 to Ladder Company 4, located in the heart of New York's Times
Square. Ladder 4 shares its quarters in the center of the Broadway
theater district with Engine 54 and the 9th Battalion. The firehouse's
motto, "Never Missed a Performance", is written in marquis type
lettering on the trucks. Brother Haub was one of 17 firefighters
and fire officers, some of who were just coming off duty and couldn't
turn a deaf ear on their City's cry for help, who left the firehouse
that morning for what would turn out to be their final alarm.
