He Loved Fishing, Biking in His Spare Time

For relief from his stressful occupation, New York City firefighter Ruben Correa, 44, would ride his bicycle or go fishing with a friend who owned a boat.

"He came home one time with a 30-pound bass they caught at night," recalled his wife, Susan. "We ate some of it and gave the rest away."

Correa, who was attached to Engine Co. 74 on West 83rd Street, Manhattan, perished when Tower One collapsed. He served as a firefighter for 13 years.

"He loved his job very much," said his wife, adding that she believes he was the only one from his firehouse who lost his life.

To unwind on his days off, he would climb on his mountain bike and head for the hilly area of Staten Island near where they lived or the beach where he and his wife would sometimes picnic.

The couple, who were married 21 years and moved from Maspeth, Queens, six years ago, had three daughters - Yvette, 20, Stefanie 15, and Brittani 10.

Correa also is survived by his parents, Lucy Morales and Ruben Correa, and a stepbrother, Randy Kingstein of Brooklyn.
