FDNY Fitness Buff Loved Action
Nov. 27, 2001

Firefighter Robert J. Cordice was the kind of guy who would do anything to lend a hand, friends said.

Cordice, a 28-year-old New Springville, Staten Island, resident, had transferred from Engine Co. 152 in Rosebank to Squad 1 in Park Slope, Brooklyn, in August. Before joining the FDNY, he had served as a city police officer.

He spent off-duty hours bartending, riding his motorcycle and working out at the gym.

He is survived by his mother, Caroline; girlfriend, Christina DePetro; aunt, Jo Ann Amelio and his uncle Alphonse Calicchio.

Robert Cordice was afirefighter who transferred to another firehouse two weeks before the attacks at the WorldTrade Center because he wanted to be closer to the action. “It’s no surprise that he was inthe building when it collapsed,” said his friend, firefighter John Deliso. “He was the type ofguy who wasn’t worried about himself.” Cordice was a policeman before joining the FireDepartment. Deliso said Cordice was the kind of friend who “would do anything for you.” Hisfriends repaid the loyalty. “All his friends loved him very much,” said his mother, CarolineCalicchio Cordice. “He was a very funny, very positive, very honest and loving son.”
