Allan,
or Doc as I called him becasue of his last name reminding me of a Budweiser
commercial, was a friend of mine at Ladder 169/Engine 246.
He transferred in after I arrived as a probie to Ladder 169. He became my
racquetball partner and I considered him a goof friend. He was teased
for not being
tall but
he was truly one of the big men at that firehouse. He was always upbeat and
did so much around the firehouse. He was mainly a family man. He brought
his children to the firehouse on a few occasions
and
he was
always
talking
about them. One day his daughter got her hand caught in the apparatus door
and broke a finger. A few months later I broke my finger at a car fire and
he made sure to remind me, often, that his daughter handled the pain much
better than I did. I only talked to Allan a few times after I left Ladder
169, but he is someone that I have always felt close to.
I
miss you Allan and think of you often.
