Memorial Service was held
on October 12, 2001
Fred Claud Scheffold Jr. wasn't the kind of guy who would
wait around for a doctor to come if he saw somebody suffering. The New York
City Fire Department battalion chief would rush to the aid of a stranger
-- even if there were no fire involved and he was off-duty -- and give first
aid. He was killed trying to reach the 90th floor of Tower Two of the World
Trade Center when the skyscraper collapsed. Scheffold is survived by a wife
and three daughters.
