Firefighter Jonathan Ielpi
Squad 288
Laid to Rest on
December 17, 2001
From
a young age Jon wanted to be a fireman like his hero father,
Lee. At 17 he joined the volunteer fire dept in Great Neck NY.
He also loved to play ice hockey and played for his high school
team the Blazers. He was an excellent hockey player.
When
he became a NY fireman he chose to give the hockey game up because
he was concerned that he might get injured and not be able to
do his fireman duties. He was very dedicated to his job. He
loved being able to help people. Jon was a very skilled fireman
and new his job well. He was a gentle teacher, someone everyone
felt they could talk to. He had a great sense of humor and his
practical jokes around the firehouse is what you had to beware
of. Jon and his father were fireman first, even on their days
off, they were always ready if the call for help came in.
Jonathan
(29) was married to his beautiful wife ,Yesenia. They were very
much in love. Some people were envious of their relationship.
They have two precious sons, Andrew (9) and Austin (3).
Jon
lost his life at the world trade center doing the job he loved
so much. He was listed as missing. His father, Lee, a retired
NY fireman, went to ground zero everyday till he found his son.
They found Jon's body 3 months later. Jonathan, like all who
were murdered that horrible day were taken prematurely from
their loved ones in an act of hatred. It saddens me much and
my heart aches for the families.
