Peter
Freund was a New York City firefighter who first met his wife, Robin, when he
was a high school football player and she was a cheerleader. But life took them
in different directions until 1987 when they married.
“Everyone
who knew us knew we belonged together,” she said. Other firefighters told
her they last saw her husband in a stairwell in the World Trade Center. Robin
Freund said she is grateful her husband’s remains have been identified. “I’m
going to be able to put the man to rest in a proper way,” she said.
